REMEBERING HOLLYWOOD: ONE YEAR LATER

WELL IT HAS BEEN A LITTLE OVER ONE YEAR SINCE I WAS LAID OFF FROM HOLLYWOOD VIDEO WHICH IS HARD TO BELIEVE BECAUSE THIS PAST YEAR HAS GONE BY TOO QUICKLY.  JUST SEEMS THAT MY STAFF AND I AT HOLLYWOOD VIDEO WERE PACKING UP THE LAST FEW THINGS AND SAYING GOODBYE TO OUR CUSTOMERS.  I AM REMINDED OF THIS BECAUSE SEVERAL WEEKS AGO I WENT TO THE BLOCKBUSTER IN TAUNTON AND FOUND OUT THEY ARE CLOSING THAT STORE.  I JUST DROPPED OFF TWO MOVIES THAT I RENTED AND ALL THE MEMORIES OF CLOSING AND SAYING GOODBYE CAME FLOODING BACK.  I WAS ONLY A MANAGER IN PEMBROKE FOR HOLLYWOOD VIDEO A YEAR AND A HALF BUT THE MANAGER AT THIS PARTICULAR BLOCKBUSTER HAS BEEN THERE 23 YEARS!!  WOW!!!  LET ME REPEAT THIS AND SAY SHE HAS BEEN THERE 23 YEARS!!!  NOW SHE HAS TO PACK EVERYTHING UP AND SAY GOODBYE TO CUSTOMERS AND FRIENDS SHE HAS KNOWN FOR 23 YEARS.  HERE I THOUGHT I HAD IT BAD IN PEMBROKE  (YEAH RIGHT!).   SHE IS NOT MOVING TO ANOTHER STORE BUT WILL SADLY BECOME UNEMPLOYED LIKE ME.   THIS IS ALL TOO FAMILIAR TO ME BECAUSE I KNOW HOW DIFFICULT IT WILL BE THE NEXT MONTH.   TOO MANY EMOTIONS TO FIGHT OFF BECAUSE OF THE LONGEVITY THAT HAS TAKEN PLACE.  CRAZY SALES COMING UP AND LONG HOURS, LONG LINES WHILE TRYING TO EXPLAIN TO CUSTOMERS WHY THE COMPANY IS CLOSING THE STORE.  I MUST SAY SHE WILL FIND IT SO MUCH MORE DIFFICULT THAN I DID BECAUSE SHE BASICALLY HAS LIVED AT THAT STORE 23 YEARS.  HOW DO YOU SAY GOODBYE AFTER BEING THERE THAT LONG?????  HONESTLY, I DO NOT KNOW HOW YOU SAY GOODBYE BUT I AM SURE SHE WILL DO FINE.

IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR SINCE I HAVE BEEN TO PEMBROKE AREA WHERE THE HOLLYWOOD STORE ONCE WAS.  I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT GOING TO VISIT THE SITE BUT I GUESS IN MY SHORT TIME THERE I HAVE SO MANY GREAT MEMORIES WITH MY STAFF, CUSTOMERS AND EXPERIENCES THERE THAT IT MAKES IT HARD TO FINALLY SAY GOODBYE.  SOME SAY IT WAS JUST A JOB AND MOVE ON WITH NO EMOTIONAL TIE.  BUT AS A MANAGER YOU POOR YOURSELF EMOTIONALLY INTO  A STORE BECAUSE YOU HAVE PRIDE TO SEE IT SUCCEED.  HERE ARE SOME THINGS YOU DO:  YOU TRAIN STAFF, WORK ON YOUR THINGS TO DO LIST, SCHEDULE STAFF TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE STORE, STAY LATE TO ACCOMPLISH BIGGER TASKS, CLEAN, DUST, MOVE THINGS AROUND, AND ASSIST CUSTOMERS.  MOST MANAGERS DO THIS.  I DO THIS AND I HAVE DONE THIS AT EACH JOB I WAS A MANAGER AT! 


NOW A LITTLE OVER A YEAR LATER I AM STILL UNEMPLOYED LOOKING FOR THAT PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO ONCE AGAIN BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH CUSTOMERS AND STAFF.  I KNOW THAT POSITION I WILL FIND SOON BUT I HAVE BEEN VERY PICKY MAKING SURE I GET THAT POSITION THAT FITS MY GIFTS AND ABILITIES.  I ALWAYS THINK THAT YOU REALLY NEED TO LOVE YOUR JOB IF YOU WANT HAPPINESS.  SINCE I HAVE FOUND THAT IN PREVIOUS JOBS I WILL NOT SETTLE FOR A JOB I WILL NOT LIKE.  I KNOW THINGS WILL WORK OUT…..
